Ryan Molina and CCO’s Contributions to Charity:
In 2004 with Jaimi Nanko and Brooke Perez, the first annual “Silent Night” event began to raise funds for diabetes prevention and education. Held at the Bodega Wine Bar in Pasadena, CA, this was a fundraiser and Silent Auction for the American Diabetes Association and was the most successful private fundraiser for the Los Angeles Chapter. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised through the silent auction, raffle prizes, and donations made at the door, benefit the local American Diabetes Associations. For Diabetes information Call 1-888-Diabetes or visit www.diabetes.org
The impetus for the event and the future "Silent Night" annual fundraisers originated with the death of Ryan’s uncle Mike Perez, Jamie’s grandfather. His death was a result of a long struggle with diabetes. From a family point of view, we witnessed first-hand the suffering that occurs when diabetes is not controlled and managed properly. Diabetes is a silent disease. More than 18 million people in the US have diabetes, many of whom are undiagnosed. Diabetes is the 5th leading cause of death in the US and can lead to heart disease, kidney failure, stroke, blindness, amputation and other chronic conditions. Diabetes can be prevented and controlled with healthy lifestyle choices.
The goal of this annual fundraiser is to bring business and community members together to raise awareness about the seriousness of this disease and the problems it can cause. All of us hope these events will inspire people who have been or could be affected by diabetes to learn what they can do to help themselves or their loved ones afflicted by the disease.
